Fighting Firework Fears

Autumn can be a magical time of year as you walk amongst crisp golden leaves under a beautiful blue sky. However it can also be a time of year that many dog owners dread as firework season begins, creating fear and worry for many of our four legged friends. All is not lost however, there are things that can ease the stress and we want those that profit from the sale of fireworks to help promote these tips, as well as raising awareness to the wider public as to the effects of fireworks. We've composed an email that can be sent to any shop selling fireworks asking them to help us in this quest. Please send to any local stores and Head Offices; this isn't about stopping people's fun, it's about helping to keep dogs safe and happy. In the meantime please see our top tips here for easing the worry and stress.

Dear [Store Manager]

As we approach Bonfire Night I am sure that many people will be getting excited about attending a firework display or indeed having one of their own. However many pet owners dread this time of year as the loud bangs can terrify pets causing them to shake, panic, hide and bark; some even need sedation from the vet as their distress is so acute. As any animal lover will testify it is heart breaking to see your pet, a family member, in so much anguish.

Whilst there are things that owners can do to help alleviate these symptons for most owners it remains a constant worry. As a responsible retailer I know that you will promote sensible usage and I certainly do not wish to stop people enjoying the celebration; however I believe that many people will be unaware of the effect their fireworks have on pets and thus on their neighbours and community. Therefore I would like to see your support in helping raise awareness with information being made available to those purchasing fireworks, as well as tips to owners on how to help their own pet. Pet owners are shoppers too and I'm sure will support those stores that help them.

Thank you for your support, I look forward to your response.

Yours sincerely
